Crosswords is a series of open and inclusive spoken word nights, hosted by poet and promoter Leanne Moden. (That's me!)
Originally established in December 2015, Crosswords open mic now runs every second Wednesday of the month, and takes place in the sandstone caves underneath the Malt Cross pub on St James Street in Nottingham.
This spooky subterranean venue was originally a cellar for the Victorian Music Hall above, and now plays host to a gaggle of poets, writers, and performers every month!
It’s probably the quirkiest (and friendliest) poetry night in town!

Each month, we have lots of lovely open mic slots, plus a fabulous featured poet/performer who performs a twenty to thirty minute headline set.
The vibe is relaxed and supportive, with plenty of room for writers of all kinds. As well as poetry, the Crosswords team also love to hear prose, monologues and storytelling, and the open mic is the perfect space to try out new material, or step on stage for the first time!
