New banner

I am indebted to talented illustrator (and all round good egg) Hannah Radenkova, for designing a wonderful banner for my blog. Thank you so much Hannah! Now all I have to do is live up to your wonderful image! For those who wish to see more art by Hannah, she's got a lovely blog that will update you on her comings and goings. You should check it out:

Haute Cuisine

Tangy and bitter
Yet strangely enchanting.
The jury is still out
On whether it counts
As one of your five-a-day.
A guilty pleasure
In which you would never admit
Indulging.
There are no Michelin Stars
In this restaurant.
This delicacy is organic
And gluten free.
Although it may contain nuts.
Tangy and bitter,
Earwax.

Flash fiction poems

Flash fiction is the art of creating a scene or telling a story in the least number of words. Here are two poems originally written for a flash fiction competition. I hope that each creates a compelling image in 50 words or less.

Espionage

We met at eight.
He was an
Exquisite
Example of masculinity.
Perfect teeth.
A diamond at each cuff
And a single red rose
Blossoming at his lapel
Like a bruise.
Almost a shame to shoot him
I thought
As I slipped away
And the sirens drew closer.
Almost.

The Party

Lamps sheathed in red silk
Shielding the glare of indiscreet
Eyes.
Plastic cups -
over-filled - are
Thrust
Into eager hands.
She places a cigarette between
Deep
Red
Lips.
Exotic liquids, dutifully swallowed.
Social Lubrication.
Stench of sweat and latex linger.
Innocence
Mislaid among the beer bottles.
